Bernie King, SSGt in 6200 SPS 1970-71
bnking@roadrunner.com

I was stationed at Clark from May 1970- May 1971. Worked in law enforcement and then as desk sergeant. Had a good time while I was there, especially on Fields Ave that was owned by a Fillipino and her SSgt. husband of whose name slips by me now after all these years, Mabalacat gate and the gate at the base landfill with the sari-sari store. I'm trying to locate a shoulder patch for my collection from the squadron. If anyone can get one or has one I would be interested in obtaining it.

Major Larry Geringer, USAF, Retired, 1966 to 1968
larry.j.geringer@boeing.com

Hello,  I was at Clark AB from Dec 1966 to Dec 1968, I was a Staff Sergeant (promoted to Tech in Sept 68)  I was in Base Flight, Crew Chief on C-54 108 and 502.  We flew to Viet Nam almost daily to bring R&R troops to Manila, RPI.  It was a crazy time with Tet and Search and Destroy and lots of wounded being med evac to Clark Hospital.  We also flew to Taipei and Ching Chang Chung and Hong Kong as well as to Japan and Thailand and all the bases there + Bangkok.  Those old C-54s were almost worn out but we somehow patched them up enough to get them to Viet Nam and back to Clark. I lived in the barracks until April of 1967 when I got my wife and son to Manila and then got them military dependant status.  My youngest son was born at the Clark Hospital on Aug 26 1967. We left Clark in Dec 1968. I went to the University of Nebraska and on to Officer Training School where I gave up my 5 Stripes for a gold bar...I retired at McChord AFB, WA and went to work for Boeing 25 years ago.  I'd be interested in contact from any of the Base Flight guys 1966 to 1969. Wwe called it "Antique Airlines"  Low and Slow,, you call, we haul, you-all"  6200 ABW Base Flight.

Jim Magoon, Aug 69 - Apr 71
goonie@metrocast.net

I was stationed at Clark from Aug 69 thru Apr 71 with the USAF Postal/Courier Service, Det 1400.  I was a Sgt (E-4) working the Courier side of the Postal Detachment and was located on the flightline next to the base terminal.  I was an administrative specialist.  My job was to process the courier material and send it to other courier detachments throughout the world.  I was hoping to connect with some of the other people that I worked with at this site.  I remember some names (Lt Edward Baroncini from Ct. - SSgt Dean Gill from Hemet, CA. - Sgt Lloyd Duetch from IL - SSgt Lippencourt) to mention just a few. I was only about 19 or 20 years old at the time.  I'm from NH.  Married a Filipino named Tess (introduced to me by Dean & Lloyd).  Any contact with any of these people or others that may remember me will be greatly appreciated.  Thanx.

Was there during the Pinatubo Eruption in Balibago while everyone evacuated to Subic and Manila. Assigned to the 13th Air Force Medical Center and was the IDMT assigned to the 13th Air Force Cadre and deployed to almost all Team Spirits at Kimhae, RSOK and several of the Cobra Gold at Korat, Thailand. Also assigned to the 656th and 657th Tactical Hospital. When I was not deployed I worked at the Base Hospital on the Med-Surg Floor and then became the Shift Leader working in the Emergency Room. Worked as NCOIC of Nursing Supply, NCOIC of Labor and Delivery, NCOIC of the Public Health Clinic. Show me your gluteus and I'll tell you if I gave you a shot for the clap at one time or another (Trobocin Pushers). If you were TDY you probably paid me a visit there too. When I ran out of needles I then moved on to be NCOIC of Nursing Education where I handled the SABC (Self Aid Buddy Care Instructor Course) and also was responsible for the CPR training for the Hospital and the Base. This included Camp John Hay, Wallace Air Station, Camp O'Donnell and the US Embassy.  So I must have run into you at least once during my stay there on base or downtown in the Ville.

Sgt, 3rd Component Repair Squadron (CRS), 1988-1991(Pinatubo)
rdshows2fam@yahoo.com

I was stationed at Clark as my first assignment right out of Tech School.  I heard the stories, but as most do, did not believe them.  I soon found out they are true and loved every minute of it.  I would love to hear from anyone that was in the 3rd CRS with me.  I am married to a Philippina cutie, nearly 15 years now.  My oldest daughter was born on Clark.  We got a chance to go back in 1997 and 1999 while stationed at Yokota AB, Japan.  The base is looking okay, for the most part.  My old dorms by PSC 1 are now a barracks. The old Officers club is a casino, golf course and Chambers Hall is now a golf resort- Memosa (sp?) and a Holiday Inn.  Commissary is now a duty free store, which are all over the place. Off base has changed a lot of course.  Most of the old bars are gone, but new ones have popped up.  Still have good places to eat--pork & chicken stand right by 'Genesis" hotel.  Nepo mart is still good for shopping.  Dau is still Dau, can still find equipment from on-base with the PMEL sticker on it.  I have kept in touch with a few guys-- Mark Hess (Ret), Bobby Gouge, Steve Sparks, Jim Burton, Rodney Krause, Joe Grant, Frank Tisdale (Capt now), Mark Vanderveer(Ret), and a few others.  I have know someone from Clark at every assingment since.....the last two names I ran into here at Tinker in OK!!!

Take Care.

Mabuhay…I’m a Filipino-American that was stationed both at John Hay AB (1970-1971) and then at Clark AB (1971-1972).  At John Hay, I was assigned to the 1961st O/L Comm Grp and maintained the MARS equipment.  Then the Air Force decided that the station was no longer needed and so my tour at John Hay ended. I was hoping to “touch bases” with anyone that was stationed there at the time.  I can remember some of the faces but can’t put a name to them. Also, if anyone was stationed at Clark AB (1961st Comm Grp) between 1971-1972, I would love to hear from them too!  Thanks/Salamat.

I noticed this sight does not have the 374th Organizational Maintenance Squadron. Hopefully it will be added now. I am hoping to find some friends I was stationed at Clark with. I was a C-130 crew chief there. I wish I could remember all the guys and gals I was stationed with. Randy Strother was stationed there probably when the mountain blew in '91. If anyone has any info on him it is appreciated. Here is a few other names; William "Bill" Henson, Willis Colpitts, Robert "Bob" Peoples, James "Jim" Nolan. I don't know if I spelled all of them correct. I would surely like to say hello to these people, it has been many years now. My tour in the Philippines was good, I met alot of good people there. I can say if I knew then what I know now it would have been different. I did go back there last Nov.('04) and again in Feb of this year. It was great. I am going back in June and in Nov. When I saw the base I was pretty disappointed. It surely is not what it once was(at least in my memory). Downtown is still a great party. Alot less GIs and alot of Euro's, Aussies, and other tourists. I can't say thats a good thing or not. I can say the PI is a great place......

Not many people would know what I was talking about today if I mentioned Project Egress Recap to them but it was perhaps the proudest part of my over twenty two years of Air Force service and certainly the highlight of my three years at Clark in 71-74. Egress Recap was the original name for Project Homecoming the return of all known American POW’s from Viet Nam to US control. First stop after release in the north or south was Clark and the regional hospital. Once there every POW was given a physical treated for what ailed them both physically and mentally and got to call home for the first time to talk to loved ones whom for some of the old timers hadn’t been spoken to in over six years. I was lucky enough to get chosen to work on Homecoming as a young E-4. I worked in the debriefing facility located just outside the hospital’s dining facility and got to meet every POW that came through as plane after plane returned them to us. I remember the planes landing, the Flags and thongs of well wishers who waited no matter what the hour or weather to greet these returning servicemen with home made banners, flags, and thousands of POW bracelets. We who were from Clark and selected to work on the project had been told several weeks before that we had been selected for a “special “ project and that was all. Then the call came at 0300 on a Tuesday morning in 1973. We were collected from our various barracks and BOQ’s (me from the 405th MMS ) and transported to the base SP barracks snack bar where we waited for about an hour before being told what was up. The music still rings in my ear from the jukebox as someone played Neil Diamond over and over “ I was morning and your were nighttime….” The air was heavy and each of us was shocked at the news, our boys were coming home and we each were going to play a part in bringing them back. It was a great privilege and one when I see the gutted shell now of that same hospital I think about and thank God for letting me participate.
