You may remember swimming with the syncronized swimming group my mom had perform for the Marco's in Manila. You may remember getting our water safety assistants badges with the Red Cross. I even volunteered with the Hospital Unit that Vietnam Vets came back to. Mom taught them to play bridge and I taught them restaint! I now work for the city of Austin Texas and will retire in 4 years.

Looking for Christopher Knight or Bill Jolley or anyone involved with the syncronized swimming group who performed for the Marcos' in Manila at the Olympic Pool during that time.

Just looking for people who lived on base during these years and attended V.I. Grissom with me. My name is Donna Reed and my family lived on Thomas Street.  I remember having so much fun on the beautiful base, horseback riding, the movies, pool, and hobby shop.  My father's name is Charles B. Reed and he worked on the flightline.  Our housegirl's name was leticia "lettie" Dagdag.  We have lost touch with her over the years and often wondered what became of her.  Would love to hear from other brats who lived at Clark!

I attended Wurtsmith Elementary for kindergarten and 1st grade.  I lived in Diamond subdivision off the base then moved to Masbati street on the base before we left in 1980.  My neighbor was Lynn Lara and my best friend was Annette Juco and Chris Baker.  I had Mrs. Brent as a kindergarten teacher.  Annette was her daughter.  I had Mrs. Taft for 1st grade.

I am now working as a chemist in Louisiana.  Just wondering if anyone out there may have some stories from that time.  I sure missed that life.  School and playtime were the best. Especially having our own personal maids.  I am really interested to get in touch with Annette again.  If there are any other brats out there, give me a holler in Cajun country.

Hello. I attended Wurtsmith Elementary School back in 1973 (First Grade) until we left there on August 11 1977. I remember being a crossing guard until a teacher found out I was only in the Third Grade! Going to the NCO Club with my parents on the weekends and playing the arcades there. When we would run out of quarters my dad would sends us out side to play in the hills behind the NCO Club. We would find bunkers that were abandoned from WWII in those hills while looking for the Barrel of Gold buried by the Japanese.

I remember the 1976 Bicentennial Air Show on Clark AFB and swimming on base on those hot days. How about the Aircraft Bone Yard on the base where the locals used to come in and dismantle the planes from the Vietnam War for scraps. We lived in Diamond subdivision off the base on Batangas Street. Presently located in Highland, California. Drop me a note. I would like to hear from you Air Force Brats!

We were stationed at Clark A.F.B. from 1968-1973 & consider it one of our best assignments.  I attended Virgil Grissom Elementary 4th - 6th grade & 7th Grade at Wagner Jr. High.  Some of my teachers were Mrs. Walters, Mr. Lipoff, Mr. Giles, Mrs. Miller, & Mrs. Coffeen.  We also attended Clarkfield Assembly of God.  We lived at 1853 Ernest St.  My best friend, Steve Creamer, lived behind me.  His parents were Pat & Rene Creamer & he had a brother Michael.  They attended Clarkfield Baptist church.  They left Clark & went to Holleman A.F.B. N.M.   I have been looking for him for years & would love to locate him.  I would also like to hear from other students who attended Virgil Grissom or Wagner Jr, High from 1969-1973.  I would like to hear from fellow classmates who might have had classes with me & fellow church members of Clarkfield Assembly of God.   Clark was an awesome assignment!

I have a lot of really fond memories from living on Clark AFB.  I lived there when I was 9-10 years old.  I attended 4th Grade at Wurtsmith Elementary.  As I recall, Lily Hill Middle School opened while I was there, anyway that's where I attended 5th Grade.  I remember having Mr. Arrington as my 4th Grade HomeRoom teacher.  In 5th Grade, Mrs. Mann was my HomeRoom & History Teacher.  From 5th Grade, I also remember a Mrs.Roberds and Mrs. Salter.  I was in the play "Oliver" as one of the "street urchin boys" which we rehearsed and performed at Wagner High School.    My dad was a Major and flew the F-4.  He worked at 13th Air Force Headquarters at one end of the Parade Field.  We lived just behind the Officers Club, which at that time ('71-'73) was right next to the Parade Field.  I lived on Wint Avenue.  I remember swimming at the Officer's Club pool many mornings before going to school.   I have a laundry list of people I'd like to correspond with from that era:  My best friends were Lance Lindsay and Mike Trout.  I remember a family named Pritchard, who had about seven kids.  The one closest to my age was Mike Pritchard.  I also remember Debbie & Mark Robinson, Mike Brinker, Gary Greer, Katy Hensley, Rich Taft, Jeff Carnell and Larry Trout.  All of these people would be around forty now (2002).   If you know any of these people, please let me know.  I can be contacted at (806) 745-0008 or 799-8504.

Jessica Vanselow, 1981 - 1991
Dependent Of (RET) MSgt Robert John Vanselow Jr.

BRATTY1201@aol.com

I am a military dependent. My family was stationed at Clark Air Force base from 1981-1991.  I was born there and I lived there up till I was 11.  Even though it has been 11 years since I have not been there I miss home and I miss my old friends.  Darrell Clifford and Michelle Balfoggs.  They were my best friends. I went  to Grissom Elementary School.  I still remember the smell and what the Philippines looks like.  My mother is full Filipino. She has me remember what the Islands look like and what the good old days were like.  I wish that the hands of time would go back so I can say good-bye to my friends and my Grandmother who past away after we left. I never got to say good-bye to my house and friends.  But I know that I cannot live in the past.  That is why I am writing this, so that my remembrance of the Philippines lives on in my heart.  My father plays a video of the volcanic eruption that he took while he was in the Philippines for the year that we parted.  It shows all the sad things that the place I still call home was destroyed.  But I have that to remember the good times. I hope that those friends that I named could see this and to know that I am looking for them and I would like to contact them sometime.

akngac@y-comm.com

I am trying to locate the former Clark AFB Base Commander, Col. Cardile (1985-1988) and family. I was good friends with thier son and daughter and have had no success in locating them. I have tried my alumni page for Wagner High School but every link ended up at a dead end. If you could help me with my frustrating search, I would be extremely greatful. The sons name is Frank Cardile and the daughters name is Kimberly Cardile. I believe the fathers name was also Frank, if my memory serves me right. I could be wrong about the fathers position as Base Commander. He may have been Commander for the 374th TAW Clark AFB. He was refered to as the Base Commander by his children several times when I hung out with them. Thank you for your time and Best Regards.

I was a dependent growing up in the P.I. just about my whole childhood until late in my high school years. My father, Kenneth Weymouth (MSgt, Retired) served 5 tours to Clark AB. My mother is from Angeles City, which going back and forth to Clark was just fine with her. I will never forget my years growing up there. We always lived in Diamond subdivion (Banahaw, Dalia, Susanna streets) Some of the other dependents I grew up and hung around with were: The Rizya brothers, Robby Jenks, Rodney Duff, Leonard Riel, Mike Versoza, Brian and Adrian Montes, Ron Noriega and his brothers Randy and John, Edgar Gill (I wonder where he is now) just to name a few. We all use to play football at the parks in Diamond. I also have two sisters who grew up there as well; Deena and Marissa. If anyone remembers me or my sisters or any of the above friends I've listed, please drop me a line.

Looking for....
dlhgoldwing@yahoo.com

I am looking for Tina Moreno,  She was 17 years old at the time and her father was a SMSgt.  They lived in base housing.  I was an A1C and stationed at Wallace Air Station in Northern Luzon and would visit Clark AB and Tina when I was on break.   Her and I had some great talks and walks all over the base.  I would love to get in touch with her again.  I was stationed in the PI from Jan 72 thru Feb 73.  So it had to be in the summer of 72.  She left the PI, after graduating from High School and went to Vermont to live with her boyfriend of the time.  He was a SSgt and a good cook in the Military.  Last I heard they lived in Vermont and she was a Chamber Maid and he was a Chef at one of the Ski Lodges.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Her Family treated me very well.  Tina and I shared a good friendship that summer before she left. Thanks.

Carla Seevers Mullins
cmmm@bulloch.net

My name is Carla Seevers Mullins.  My father, Clarence "Rocky" Seevers served at Clark in 1967-?.  I am seeking info from anyone who may have flown with him to Nam to pick up injured soldiers.  This info is not in his military records.  It is needed as my mother has filed a claim with the V.A. to receive agent orange benefits.  My father died in 1996, the cause of death was prostate cancer. If anyone flew with him, all that is needed is some documentation to that effect. Thank You for all your help.

Jacks0308@aol.com

Dependent of then Capt. Mark Kyle USAF now Col. Mark Kyle USAFR. We lived at 158 14th Place (the horseshoe) in the western Hill housing area. I can still remember the phone number 29332. Though it looks smaller on the ariel photos now.  Clark AB was my entire world from the ages of 7 thur 13.  Looking back at that time, starting in the trailers with the windows painted black, all the way to Marcos's strangle hold on the people being ripped from his hands, I enjoyed my time in the P.I..  No where else in my military childhood did I have so many things to do; youthcenter, bowling, football, soccer, basketball (Dad coached), baseball, boyscouts, golf, a BMX bike track (where a Nigreto was kind enough to leap over "The Wall"  grab my brand new dirt bike and throw both it and himself back over the wall, neither to be seen again)  two movie theaters,  endless jungle to explore in search of  W.W.II leftovers (although not by Lily Hill because there was supposed to be old landmines still waiting for their victims up there) the list goes on and on.  My twin brother Jason and I had many friends.  You gained new ones and lost old ones to "The States" throughout the year.  I would like to know what happened to the following people: Billy Gates, John and Calvin Wolfe, Pascal Felix, Joyce Liecup, Mike Roberts, Michael Violet,  Ben Unaver, DR. Parsley, James "Games People Play" Jernigan, David Roads, Jennifer Flowers, Broody Groover , Joe Pride or anybody who knew Jeremy or Jason Kyle the twin boys with almost pure white hair or if you knew any of these people or if you ever braved the entire lenght of "The Jungle" a.k.a. the FM washout please email me. David Clark 1976 - 1978, 1982 - 1986
Wurtsmith, Grissom, Lilly Hill, Wagner Middle

davtclark@yahoo.com

My Family (Father--RET SMSGT David B. Clark, Mother--Pam, and Brother--Michael) was stationed at Clark Air Force Base twice.  We lived off base in Diamond the first tour. The second tour we stayed at the "trailers" for a moment till we got settled into our home off base in Plaridel II.  Stayed there for a while and moved on base at 2403 Postal Street.  That was great because I made more friends very quickly because I played sports year round and recognized people that I played against; and because we didn't have to drive on base to get drinking water and heat water up to take a bath. Things I remember at Clark:  H.O.G. (the parachute ride, the craps table--gambling for tickets, the fireworks, the Masonic Lodge Fish Fry booth), Four Seasons,  the new Youth Center, Chicken Coop, FEN, the Bamboo Bowl, the Olympic swimming pool & the other big pool--forgot the name, typhoon season, the day Burger King opened.  Just to name a few things; and of course my friends.  That being said I would hopefully like to get in touch with ANYONE that remembers me or the following people:  John, Jason & Kevin Van Blarcom, Richard & Robert Blink, Richard & Ray Rogers, Neil Glover, Leonard & Matthew Holsten, T.C. Tripp, Lynn Clark, Marjo Versoza, Everyone I played sports with and ANYONE I went to school with; and anyone on Jeremy Kyle's list.  Hopefully someone knows somebody and so on.  Thanks to Sgt. H. James for puting this site together.

I attended Lily Middle School from 1984 to 1988 and went to Wagner High School from 1988 to 1991.  I would have graduated in 1992 at Wagner.  The evacuation of Clark AB, then from the Philippines was an entirely exhausting and emotional experience.  I left everything behind, from family to lots of friends.  Over the years, I have been fortunate in meeting up with a lot of old friends, and I am still best friends with Leo Arsitio.  I am looking for a hello from anyone who I am lucky to have befriended in the past, whether it was at Lily Hill, Wagner, or from anywhere else at Clark.  God bless everyone and I hope to hear from some old friends!

I don't remember what school I attended, but I do remember Mrs. Marks as a teacher that really had an impact on me.  I was there from the last part of my kindergarten year through 3rd grade, and somewhere along the line I was in Mrs. Marks class.  I recall how excited I got when I discovered reading through her.  I come from a big family, that at the time of our stay at Clark, included my dad, Capt then Major Julian McFadden (Ret. as a Col.), mom, Rebecca (she was Hawaiian), sisters Ku'uipo, Mary, Kaleo, Nahaku, and Keahi (she was born there), and brothers Arthur and John.  Don't remember the road, but we lived on the ring of houses that bordered the huge parade ground that led up to the 13th Air Force HQ, on the same side as the Officers Club.  I guess my dad had a difficult time putting them up, but the first christmas we spent at Clark he hung lights around the eaves of the house and they never came down till we left.  Me and most of my siblings were on the base swim team, and my brothers and I all played baseball.  It was convenient that many of our baseball practices were held on the parade ground right outside our front door.  I also remember my mom, along with other transplant Hawaiians, putting on luau's and Hawaiian shows that us kids all had to dress up to dance and sing in.  Just thought I'd share some of my fond memories of Clark.

Lived at Clark 1964-1967, first off base and then in the Officer's North area about the first circle from FM hill... used to play down behind the housing area behind fence... which was a no-no... Remember one HS student used to hang with... David Rescuarl {sp?} we snuck off base over the fence a time or two, and some APs jumped us one night... that was scarry... saw all those .45's drawn... in the days of the Huks.   I think his dad was an air force sergeant, also a boy - last name Diehl(sp?) who had a Honda 50 he was awful proud of... I Attended Wagner Middle and High Member of the Wagner HS Aux. Band went to Manilla for a concert... went to Baquio and the beach up at San Fernando (?)... My dad was a private pilot and he and I flew to Corregidor and the Concrete Battleship in Manilla Bay and around Mt Arayat a couple of times. Dad was a civilian attached to the Air Force at RRF down in the antenna field ... looking for anyone who attended Wagner during those years... email me at the address above. Thanks for some of those awsome pictures on your web site.  Believe it or not, I am now an elementary school teacher getting ready for retirement. Dad is gone, but Mom is a snowbird living in Idaho and Arizona, sister in California. I have one son living and one son died after Christmas of this year.  My wife is a teacher/librarian.  We live in Southwestern Virginia. You sure drug up some memories.  Thanks.  I'll see if i can dig up some Clark pictures and email them to you.

Hi.  My family and I were stationed at Clark from 1972 - 1976.  Our last name is Gunderson (Debra, Carl, Susan, and Tracy)  Our age range now is 38 - 44.  If any of you remember any of us, we'd love to hear from you.   I have so many wonderful memories from the Philippines (don't miss the cock roaches).  We lived off base for three years, in Paridel II, on Quirino Street, but my brother and I, along with about 70 other kids had to get rabies shots, so my parents moved us on base.  But we made it to the Stars and Stripes for that one!  When we moved on base we lived on Whitman, right down the street from Lilly Hill.   Between the four of us, we attended every school.  I attended Wurtsmith, Grissom, and Lilly Hill.  Debra and Carl spent the majority of the time at Wagner Jr. and Sr. High Schools.  They were in a band that sang at Wagner High School dances.  I still remember them singing "We're an American Band".  Yep, I just dated myself.  Getting old...  Tracy went to Grissom and Lilly Hill.    I still remember a lot of the names; the Bedsole family, Bradley and Randy Heath, Mari Davis, Sue Brock, Blase Gaude (I just spoke with him over the phone yesterday), Jacqui Clarke (she and I have kept in very close contact and visit with one another yearly; she's in SC and I'm in CA), Harvey Wilber (I used to protect him from bullies), Tim Dillon, Bill DeCaugh (I know that I'm not spelling his last name correctly), John Walker (my fourth grade heart throb), and many more.  I often wonder where everyone is now.   My brother and I used to sneak up on Lilly Hill to try to explore the caves.  I remember feeding stray dogs who made a home on the hill.  I remember the bomb scares at school.   My family and I loved going to the Happening on the Green.  My mother was always involved with the planning and operation.  And I remember the air shows and the very poignant moments when we got our POWs back.  I wrote to one of them for a while before I lost track of him.   I could go on and on...If any of you remember any of us, we'd love you to drop a line.  We're all in Northern California now.  I'm in Elk Grove.  Maybe some of you are right under our noses.  I hope to hear from our old friends and I hope you are all doing well in life.   Su Steurer-Duff

Diamond Subdivision: trekking over the cinder block walls separating the houses; climbing over the wall surrounding Mt Arayat; finding scattered WWII spent shells, tank treads; buying colorful slingshots from filipino boys who canvassed the neighborhood; visiting the flight line with my dad; Baguio, Subic Bay Naval Station; the "Stolen from Clark AB NCO Club" ashtrays; our maid, Nelly; learning to dance between long bamboo poles; learning to golf from Rudy.... I'd love to share memories with you. Please contact me.

I spent my junior and part of my senior year at Wagner High School.  I am trying to locate a couple of people who went to school with me--Joyce Powell (who married Skip Coppola) and Jeff Chambers. I vaguely remember that Jeff's dad was a civilian working for the Air Force?  Actually, so was Joyce's dad.   Help!  I have tried in vain to locate either one of them. I am to reconnect with them soooo bad!  If anyone has any information about either Joyce or Jeff, please let me know.  I regret not keeping in touch with them after I left Wagner - what can I say?  I was a flighty 17-year old! But I have come to realize over the years that friends are everything and especially these two.  So if anyone can help me locate either of these people, I would really appreciate it.

My name is Sharon Jackson and my family was stationed at Clark from 1968-1970. My father was Staff Sargent George Jackson (aka "Jack") and was a prop mechanic, my mother was Bettye. I don't remember the Hanger he was assigned to but I do remember the he did have a part time job working at the Officer's Club as well as the NCO Club as a bartender. My mother was a regular at the Hobby Shop. We also took Judo classes and swim lessons. I also remember going to the dances on Saturday mornings at the NCO Club with all of the kids ordering Shirley Temples at the bar. My older sister Joyce and brother, George Jr. (aka "Junie") attended Wagner. I as well as my two younger brother's, Ronald and Scotty attended V.I. Grissom.  The only teacher that I can really remember is my 4th grade teacher Ms. Zimmerman. One of the most exciting things that happened while in school was when we experienced earth quakes and had to run outside. We lived off base in Don Bonnafacio Sub Division on Don Pedro St. and on base too, I don't remember the street name but we lived right by the Officer's Club by the golf course. The kids in the neighborhood use to take the golf balls off of the course, and we use to run through the fog of the fumigator truck that use to pass by every night. (Pretty stupid, huh!) I wonder what ever happened to Paul, -I don't remember his last name but we lived in the same sub-division off base and I think his dad was a Captain. We caught the school bus together and we were play-mates. He use to come to my window early Saturday mornings and wait outside of it until I was dressed and ready to come out to play.(Remember when you were escorted to my house by your Dad to apologize to me for being mean.) and also, a girl I use to play with while living off base, was is Asian girl I think either Japanese or Hawaiian who was fascinated with my African American dolls. My brother was on the Football team the "Brown's" and my sister and I were cheerleaders I don't remember what team my sister cheered for but I cheered for the "Packers". If anyone remembers me or my family please contact me at my email address or phone. 201-424-5826

I attended the 6th grade at Wagoner Middle School from 1969 to 1970. The DoD teacher I had by the name of Sandra Jackson was the most incredible teacher I ever had in my life. She was a life-saver for me in many ways. For many years now I have been trying to locate her so that I could thank her for making a difference in my life. I want her to know I have never forgotten her. I have no idea where to try to see if she can be reached. Do you have any advice for me on this?

davtclark@yahoo.com

H. James for putting this site together.

I happened upon the clarkab.com website and of course thanks to the hard work of James Holub the floodgates of fond memories opened.  I look back now and realize that is was a great place to be, although I hated being away from the US at the time I was there as a young boy.  I loved all the cool stuff that you could do from guitar lessons to pop-warner football.  I remember the millions of toads and night-crawlers, insects the size of a fist, the foul smelling street steam as it began to rain, kids in every house to play with, constant flooding, and basically all the trouble a young boy could muster.  I was looking to hear from anyone who remembers me… I lived on Samar Street right off of Anderson.  Give me an email if you are reminiscent or want to chat.

I think you are doing a wonderful job with this site.  i have to admit that it has brought tears to my eyes.  Please, keep up the good work.  I will see if I have anything to contribute to your site.  take care!   Message to post:   I attended Lily Middle School from 1984 to 1988 and went to Wagner High School from 1988 to 1991.

Wow, the Philippine Islands -- I'll never forget! Still today, certain landscapes and wonderful smells take me back. Not many others living on the West Coast of the US can say they've experienced a Typhoon, eh? Most have never even heard of one:) I loved my experience living in the Philippines, and I have often longed to return.  I was only six years old when my Father, Ronald Boe (Boe) received orders to the Philippines, and eight when we returned to the states (Travis AFB in Northern California). I remember and loved so much our house girl, Evie -- She was an awesome cook, for sure! We lived in Angeles City from 1970-1971. I don't recall the street address, but do recall living near a park with a swimming pool. I remember 'calling' the park Triangle Park, but am not sure if that was the official name.  We did spend our last year in the PIs living on Clark, AB, and remember living in a culdesac in a two-story apartment building -- Lots of fun! I'm looking for any fellow students who may have attended 1st and 2nd grade during the years 70-72. If My memory serves me correctly, my 2nd grade teacher's name was Ms. Mulberry...I remember so vividly a coed companion, Floyd.  He lived across the street from us in Angeles City -- If you're out there: Remember eating cereal with water instead of milk before school? :)  P.S. Remember when Santa landed on the school playground in a helicopter? Best wishes and I so hope to hear from someone from the past. GK, EMT-Paramedic

I come from a big family that at the time of our stay at Clark included my dad, Capt then Major Julian McFadden (Ret. as a Col.), mom, Rebecca (she was Hawaiian), sisters Ku'uipo, Mary, Kaleo, Nahaku, and Keahi (she was born there), and brothers Arthur and John.

Clark AB Dependent Message Lived at Clark 1964-1967 first off base and then in the Officer's North area about the first circle from FM hill... used to play down behind the housing area behind fence... which was a no-no... Dad was a civilian attached to the Air Force at RRF down in the antenna field ... looking for anyone who attended Wagner during those years. Thanks for some of those awsome pictures on your web site.  Believe it or not, I am now an elementary school teacher getting ready for retirement. Dad is gone, but Mom is a snowbird living in Idaho and Arizona, sister in California. Arsen Nabas, 1985 - 2000
arsen_nabas@hotmail.com

Just looking for old friends and classmates from Virgil Grissom Elementary – First grade class 1985-1989 and Lily Hill Middle School – Fifth grade class 1989-1990. My father retired (CEC – navy) Arsenio Nabas and my mom (housewife) Divina: In the year 1990-1991 (around the Pinatubo eruption) my family  and I stayed in Angeles City to finish our education locally (pod-school) I continued Grade 6 at Angeles Chinese Lip Lin School, the only school that would accept me as an English-speaking student at the time. In the Philippines elementary stops at the 6th Grade, then I went to High School at Jocson Junior College (1991-1995) just located outside main gate of Clark. I then went on to Systems Plus Computer College for 5-years and graduated B.S. in Computer Engineering in the year 2000. And shortly after, went to Guam to enlist in the Navy. My brothers did the same thing before me, you might know them: Ariel Nabas (now AEC – navy), Allan Nabas (now SGT – Army), Myron Nabas (now CTR1 – navy) Myself (now AE2 – navy) and my little sister Vinna Nabas (now Registered Nurse – Civilian) all of us are currently scattered throughout different countries. Back then being a military brat and now actually being in the military is nothing how I expected it to be. My parents made it look so easy, even now I am still single at 27 years old, I can’t imagine how I would be dragging my dependants (if I had any) around 7-years in the navy being stationed a few months or years at a time at locations like: Great Lakes IL, Pensacola FL, Point Mugu CA, Cherry Point NC, Yokosuka Japan and soon to transfer to San Diego CA in June 2007 and stay there until June 2010. I would like to hear from anyone who knows me or my brothers or sister and know how you are doing. I would be comforting and to nice, to hear and share similar stories of how Clark Air Base was and how much it is missed. Thank you and God bless us all.

Adam Hockley, San Antonio, Texas
ahockley@thesagegroup.cc

I lived in the Philippines from late summer 1983 to early summer 1986.  Wow,  reading all these stories is bringing a surge of memories back for me.  We were stationed on Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland from 1981 to 1983.  It was a wonderful place.  When we moved out of our house we moved in with my grandparents for a few weeks in Pennsylvania.  As I left Pennsylvania in 1983, I was crying like a baby on the plane.  I was 10 years old and I was scared to fly and I was afraid of where we were going.  They gave me some apple pie and the world was good again.  We flew from Baltimore, to St. Louis, to San Francisco, to Anchorage Alaska, Okinawa and then finally the PI. I will always remember walking off the Flying Tigers 747.  I saw my dad waving at me, my mom and my 3 older brothers.  I turned around on the tarmac and saw a volcano (Mt. Arayat) behind the plane!  That was a shocker.  My dad quickly relieved my worries....of course he told me nothing of Mt. Pinatubo...hah. The very next day I had my introduction to the Typhoon.  We got hit the day after we landed.  It was raining and windy.  I had never seen weather like that. We lived off base in Carmenville.  Our home was hot, humid and had no central AC.  I'm half Filipino and soon enough the relatives started to come and visit their long lost cousins.  My parents room did have a window unit so, we always slept in that room for the A/C. We used to ride our bikes around the neighborhood and talk with our Walkie Talkies.  We found many new insects that you can't find in the U.S.  We really loved the Preying Mantis's I could write forever on my memories, so I'll keep it short. We moved on base in April 1984.  That was a huge difference.  Everything was in walking distance or bike distance.  I felt safe...er on the base.  The walls with the chipped glass were somewhat comforting, but the maching gun fire late at night in the distance was unnerving. We lived on Tawi Tawi street and my list of friends grew as did my brothers. We were all in the Wagner High School Band.  All four of us.  I played trumpet, my brothers Ronnie and Andy played clarinet and my oldest brother Buddie player alto sax.  Mr. Cabret really tried to get the best out of us and the band and I will always remember that he was tough, but he really loved music and he wanted perfection.  So, I had 5th, 6th and 7th grades over there.  From Lilly Hill to Wagner Middle School.  I was in Varsity band in 7th grade.  That was awesome.  Hanging out with the big boys was a wonderful memory.  Playing at basketball games and going to band trips were great. Right before we left in 1986, Typhoon Dot came through.  I have video footage of that and it was amazing.  The wind and rain just blew through knocking down everything... I left the Philippines with sadness.  I was very young when I got there....and I grew up a lot over there.  My perspective changed a lot about many things.  I was very innocent and naive when I first got there.   When I finally made it back to the US, we again moved in with my Grandma (my grandpa passed away in '85).  We finally moved to Fort Sam Houston, Texas in August if 1986 and a whole new story and chapter of my life was about to begin. My closest friends were Nathan Marsh, Daniel Calderon, Keith and Kenneth Covington, Chris Rehrig, Jean Harmelink, Bernard Morillo....and others.

sorbert21@yahoo.com

Hi my name is Kristal Golden, I went to VI Grissom from 86-90 (ages 5-9). I lived on Simon st. and am looking for anyone who lived near the BX, Simon St., or went to VI the same time as me. The 3 teachers names I had that I can recall are Mrs. Santos, Ms. Nicolé, and Mrs. Gay.  I have great memories there of watching Reading Rainbow in the library, playing outside in the enormous school playground while eating 15 cent popsicles, the annual H.O.G.'s, the trips to Baggio for strawberries... ahhhh the good ol' days. Please contact me if you think we met or if you just wish to talk about Clark.

Harvey Heath -Aka- Trey
HHeath@flightoptions.com

lived on Clark AFB in 1976 through 1978. I attended McArthur Elementary School, however I do not hear or see that school mentioned in many blogs. It was a fairly new school at the time I believe that it may have opened in 1974. My teachers name was Mrs. Luther and I was in the fourth grade at the time. I had a few friends at the time but I can only remember first names ( Walter, Mary Ann Boyer) Mary Ann if your out there I do remember your mothers name was Johnny and you had an older sister and brother high school ages I guess. Anyway if your out there I would love to hear from you. I had a little sister and a brother named Tammy and Danny. Our last name is Heath I am Harvey aka Trey. We lived in the apartment complexes near Bunker Hill on one side and the old style barn houses on the other. Oh, I just remembered a little girl that lived in our court named Sherry Porter she must have been 5 or 6 at the time. We were there during Typhoon Kim….. does anyone remember that storm. I can remember the front yard flooding and the foil taped X”s on the windows. The far east network worked overtime that 3 days. I do remember all of the landmarks around the base such as Bicentennial Park, Kelly Theatre, Bobbit as well, Bunker Hill, The Top Hat Club ( NCO Club) golf course and pool who could forget that high diving board. I remember diving of that at 9 years old and I thought I really did something huh! Then there was the housekeeper her name was Auring and she was the greatest. I really miss it there and the life we lived. The weather was amazing and all of the beautiful memories I will always hold dear. Please help me refresh my memory!  Thanks to all!

I am trying to locate a great teacher to which I owe a lot.  His name is Mr. Gero and he taught English in Wagner middle school.  we lived at 892B Masbate, wow can't believe I still remember the address, and we also lived outside of friendship gate.  We were stationed at Clark from 1980 – 1982.  We left the Philippines in 1982 when my grandmother passed away.  My father was SMSgt Henry “Jody” Chatman.  I know that it is doubtful he may still be alive, but if anyone has any info on his family.  It would be appreciated.

Swatkins2@elon.edu

My father was stationed at Clark AFB with his Naval Unit, NSGA.  He left Clark as CPO Philip M. Watkins.  The first thing I remember about the P.I. was getting pink eye shortly after arriving.  Fun!!  LOL  When we arrived we lived off base at Timog park.  Remember the strikes!?  Couldn’t get on base because the gates were blocked.  Having food helo’d in for us.  About a year later we moved off of Westinghouse Drive.  I honestly had a great time though.  I did play midget league football.  We were the Raiders and we won our championship.  I had two friends that I hung out with a lot, they were Danny and Nick…think last name was Evans.  They both were twins.  I do remember the HOG very well, since my parents were in charge of a booth for NSGA.  I can’t remember the game, I just remember that the prizes were made of brass.  I could probably go on and on about everything that I remember from the P.I.  I’m glad that I can read stories from other people that shared my experiences.

Raeleen Barnes Matlock, 1969 - 1972
V.I. Grissom
raeleen.matlock@gmail.com

I have fond memories of living in PI.  We got there when I was 9 and returned to the 'States' when I was 12.  We lived off base for a few months and then moved on base. Dad, Jimmy R Barnes, was a TSGT at the time.  My Mom's name is Pat, my sisters are Kathleen and Aileen.  My favorite spot was the Horse stables.  I was in the Quirt and Crop Riding club.  I remember spending a lot of time at the Hobby Shop and at the swimming pool. Took all the swimming classes.  We had a maid that we called 'Bracie', but I think her name was really 'Precy' for Prescilla.  My Mom really loved the Philippines.  She loved having a maid, a yard-boy, a sew-girl...I vaguely remember a shoe-boy that shined shoes.  Mom really loved shopping...Especially at Christmas.  We had huge Christmases.    Friends that I remember were Adrian Morgan and Kay Keever.  We also lived in North Highlands, California and went to Junior High School together.   I would love hearing from anyone that was there.

I would be interested to hear from anyone that may have remembered me. My time in the Philippines was great, but there are many gaps in my memory that I would like filled. The only names I can remember are Shawna Hensley (I helped teach her how to ride a bike) and Jon and JP Savage. I remember many more people but names are a blank. Any help would be appreciated, including info on the listed people. I lived off base the first two years and then by McArthur the last two (the street was a circle). I played T-ball or baseball every year (there was a Michelle on my team) and I even named our team one year as the T-birds. Mike - Houston, TX

Hello, My name is Bob Rummel and I was a dependant on Clark in '60-'63. Through a series of small things, I found myself looking back at my time in the P I. I was there during my Jr High years and I loved living at Clark. I remember the story of the evacuation before the volcano hit, and the overall sadness that day. I think  I also some of it on TV. I did find the old yearbooks on line, Thanks to all that put up the site and Terry Ballard who I just exchanged emails with. He has an outstanding site and all my old memories came back. I know I was there fifty years ago, but If you go through the yearbooks and see my picture and remember me, please contact me. I live in Peabody, MA and my phone number is always listed. I would like to connect with any of the people that were kids in the PI during that time, it was great. My father was a Senior Master Sergeant and he and my mother are still well and snowbirds in Fl and MA. I have two brothers, David and Scott, so if you remember us. Give me a call or email. Susan Gunderson, 1972 - 1976 - Lilly Hill
jlduff@surewest.net
